DESCRIPTION:\nMichael is an attorney at DeWitt LLPâs Madison office and is licensed to practice law in both Wisconsin and South Dakota. His practice focuses exclusively on trusts and estates matters. It includes designing and preparing estate plans for both non-taxable and taxable estates, including those in excess of $100 million. Michael's practice also entails contested and uncontested trust and estate administrations, fiduciary litigation, and will and trust contests. In non-adversarial contexts, Michael prepares and advises on estate and gift tax returns and complex irrevocable trust modifications. Michael is also an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School teaching "Introduction to Estate Planning" for the Fall 2026 semester and "Trusts and Estates" for the Spring 2027 semester.\n\nWith respect to the topic of this presentation, Michael is one of ten members of the Wisconsin State Legislature's Legislative Council Study Committee on Cryptocurrency, of which four members are elected members of the Wisconsin legislature. The Study Committee on Cryptocurrency is tasked with reviewing cryptocurrency staking laws and advising on the adoption of legislation relating to other uses of cryptocurrencies. Michael is also a founding member of the Wisconsin Blockchain Business Council. He has personally been involved in the blockchain space for 9 years and has used his years of first-hand experience in the space to advise clients holding cryptocurrencies on how this new, unique class of assets factors into their estate plans.\n\n\n\n\n
